When beginning to set type choose a typecase and a galley to place lines of type. Immediately after choosing a typeface, write the name of the face, the size, and your name on a piece of tape and place it on the flat portion of the galley. Write your name on another piece of tape and place on the end of the galley.

1. Typeset:

This line is spaced with em quads.

Change the word spacing respectively from:

1. em quads to en quads
2. en quads to 3-em spaces
3. 3-em spaces to 4-em spaces
4. 4-em spaces to 5-em spaces
5. 5-em spaces to brass spaces
6. brass spaces to no spaces

2. Typeset:

TYPOGRAPHY

1. use no letterspacing
2. "optically" letterspace
3. use 1 pt. letterspacing
4. use 5-em letterspacing
5. use 3-em letterspacing
6. use en letterspacing

3. Set on three lines:

In addition to the space between the
words and letters, it is also possible
to vary the space between the lines of type.

Proof with:

1. 2 pt. leading
2. 4 pt. leading
3. 6 pt. leading

4. Justify text in 3 above to the longest line.

5. Set your name and address on separate lines.

Set name in all caps, address in caps and lowercase.
Center each line.
Optically letterspace name.
